Civita Castellana has been Tuscia's main ceramics centre for centuries, a craft still alive in several local workshops. Its landmark monument is Forte Sangallo, built on the orders of Pope Alexander VI Borgia.
The cathedral and the Cosmati masters
The Cathedral has a fine Romanesque facade and mosaic floors made by the Cosmati masters. The town sits on a tuff promontory at the meeting point of two ravines, on the site of ancient Falerii, capital of the Falisci people.
