Civita di Bagnoregio: "the dying town"

Civita di Bagnoregio stands isolated atop a hill of clay and tuff, constantly eroded by the elements — hence its nickname, "the dying town". It is linked to Bagnoregio by a long pedestrian bridge built in the 20th century.

An almost uninhabited old town

The number of permanent residents is tiny, but the village is among the most photographed in Lazio thanks to its dramatic position suspended above the badlands.

Access requires an entrance ticket for the bridge. On summer weekends, entries may be capped.
