Marta sits directly on the southern shore of Lake Bolsena, at the point where the Marta river begins. The village keeps a daily relationship with the water: the harbour, boats and fishing-related activities are part of the urban landscape. Behind the lakefront, the old town climbs toward the castle core and the Clock Tower.
The Clock Tower
The tower, roughly 21 metres tall, is one of the village's symbols and, along with the surrounding buildings, what remains of the old fortified area. The Farnese coat of arms is also visible on the structure. Next to the tower, a terrace offers views over the lake and the islands of Martana and Bisentina.
The village and the harbour
Heading down toward the shore, the mood shifts: the medieval fabric gives way to the lakefront and harbour activity. It's this transition that sets Marta apart from the other Volsini towns.
The Barabbata
The best-known local tradition is the Festa della Madonna del Monte, known as the Barabbata, celebrated on 14 May and deeply tied to local guilds and farming life.
