The Night of Candles is Vallerano's most recognisable contemporary event. At dusk, the village is lit by around a hundred thousand candles arranged along streets, staircases, doorways and windows, while music, theatre and installations animate various points across the old town. Though relatively recent compared to Tuscia's centuries-old religious festivals, it has developed a strong identity and draws residents directly into the preparations.
Lighting the village
One of the most striking moments is the collective lighting of the candles. The shift from daylight to flickering flame completely transforms how the architecture and lanes are perceived.
Shows and installations
Each edition picks a theme and builds a programme of concerts, storytelling, theatre, projections and performances spread across the town. The event doesn't revolve around a single stage, but invites visitors to keep moving between the streets.
Vallerano in a different light
For one night, this Monti Cimini town becomes a completely transformed stage set. It's one of the province's most photogenic events, and one of the few able to draw an audience from beyond Tuscia.
