Once an Etruscan city, Tuscania today preserves an almost intact medieval city wall enclosing an old town that has stayed off the main tourist routes of the Lazio coast.
Two Romanesque churches
Just outside the main town stand the two churches that make Tuscania essential for lovers of Romanesque art: San Pietro, from the 11th century, with a relief-carved facade, and Santa Maria Maggiore, with a finely decorated portal.
