Celleno has long been tied to cherry farming, and the festival dedicated to this fruit is one of the town's most recognisable events. For several days, allegorical floats and costumed groups parade through the streets, while stalls and food stands turn the cherry into the star of the show. The event takes place in the modern town centre and combines easily with a visit to the nearby ghost village.
The allegorical floats
One of the festival's signature features is the float parade, organised with the participation of local groups. Music, costumes and costumed groups accompany the procession through the streets.
Fritters and the giant tart
The festival serves up traditional cherry fritters and a giant tart, which has become one of the event's culinary symbols over time. The fruit is therefore more than just an excuse for a party — it's a recognisable part of local culture.
Old and new Celleno
The festival is also a chance to explore the old village and its Castello Orsini. It's a good example of an event that links the modern town to its history.
