Gradoli sits on the hills around Lake Bolsena, in a scenic position among woods and farmland. The old town retains a medieval structure, but the monument that defines its identity is Palazzo Farnese. The Farnese family links Gradoli to Caprarola, Castro, Ischia di Castro and the other towns that, in the 16th century, formed a real geography of power across Tuscia.
Palazzo Farnese
The palace was built in the 16th century as the family's residence. It dominates the old town and today houses the Museo del Costume Farnesiano (Farnese Costume Museum), dedicated to the life, clothing and settings of the court.
The village
Lanes, staircases and stone passageways spread out around the palace. Its small scale makes Gradoli an easy visit, one that combines well with other towns around the lake.
The lake's Alta Tuscia
From Gradoli, Latera, Grotte di Castro and the northern shore of Lake Bolsena are all within easy reach. It's a quieter area than the larger towns of Bolsena and Montefiascone.
