The Hazelnut Festival is one of the most important events of the summer in Caprarola. Hazelnut cultivation defines a substantial part of the Monti Cimini territory, and the festival celebrates this product with tastings, parades and shows across the old town. The event has long since passed its sixtieth edition and stands as one of the most visible ties between Caprarola and its agricultural economy.
The Cimini hazelnut
The Tonda Gentile Romana is the variety most closely associated with this part of Lazio. Hazelnut and chestnut groves shape the landscape around Lake Vico and the towns of the Cimini. During the festival, the nut appears in sweets, creams and traditional preparations.
The parades
One of the festival's signature features is the parades and activities running along the Via Dritta, the street that leads up toward Palazzo Farnese.
Caprarola between festival and Renaissance
The day can easily be rounded off with a visit to Palazzo Farnese and its gardens, building an itinerary that combines monumental heritage with agricultural culture.
